For the fourth straight year, The Los Angeles Senate of TNBA and "Corvette of Choice" joined forces to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The two organizations collaborated to support the City of Gardena's 28th annual MLK Parade Celebration, an event that has become one of the most communally anticipated annual events for the city.
This years parade was marshaled by community figures Robert and Jasmine Garcia, and Grand Marshaled by track star and olympic hopeful Carmelita Jeter, also known as the "fastest woman in the world."
Two of Saturday's parade highlights were the spectacular performances of the award winning Centennial high school marching band, and the highly choreographed routines of the young Audubon middle school drill team. Among many other performances and parade participants were appearances from celebrity guests and a crowd pleasing appearance from the honorable Congresswoman Maxine Waters. There were thousands of spectators, and for many of the participants, Saturday's event was just a precursor to several other high-profile King celebrations throughout Southern California. Some of these same performers will be participating in other Kingdom Day events.
Says the president of LATNBA: "Celebrating the legacy of Dr. King is important to TNBA and our community! We are more than honored to be able to contribute to this event every year. As with the efforts of Dr. King during his day, the TNBA organization was established to be inclusive and to fulfil dreams of those looking for equal opportunities in sports, including opportunities in bowling. For that, we are eternally greatful."
For many who showed up to watch the parade, the appreciation for the event was evident. The community was equally determined to continue keeping Dr. King's dream alive!
